FAQ's

  • the aarburg
    • Do you have 24 hour reception?
      • Since we are a small business with only 9 rooms it is not possible to have 24-hour reception, however, we are always contactable by phone. If you plan to arrive outside our reception hours we are happy to organise check in at your convenience.

    • Will we have a view of the mountains from the room?
      • Each room is advertised individually and when you book, you will receive the actual room in the photographs. If the room says ‘city or old town views’, this means you are not on the front side of the property and will not have the view of the Jungfrau. ‘River and mountain view’ indicates a room at the front of the building.

    • Can we do laundry at The Aarburg?
      • The nearest laundromat is 5 minutes walk away called “Wash & Go”.
    • Do you have fridge in the room?
      • Instead of adding a fridge to each room, we have a comfortable guest lounge area that is equipped with a fridge and kettle. The guest lounge is always open.

    • Is there a lift/elevator or do I have to walk up the stairs?
      • The Aarburg is a three-story building with the cafe and bar area on the ground floor. All guest accommodation is either on the first floor or second floor and is only accessible by stairs. Our staff are very happy to help you with your bags if needed, but you will have to climb the stairs yourself. Sadly, for this reason, we are not suitable accommodation for anyone with reduced mobility.

    • Can we have a room with a balcony?
      • We wish everyone could have their own private balcony but unfortunately, only one room has its own little balcony. The majority of our rooms face the mountains and everyone is welcome to have breakfast on the larger terrace, or perhaps an evening drink.

    • Do you have free car parking whist we stay at the aarburg?
      • Yes, we have a limited number of free car spaces just around the corner from the property. It is best to reserve a space ahead of time in case there is a high demand.

  • Interlaken
    • Should we arrive at Interlaken West or Ost (East)?
      • the aarburg is a beautiful 20-minute walk from Interlaken Ost station. The walkway along the River Aare will bring you right to our door. You can also take Bus #104 and it will bring you to the Unterseen Stadthausplatzstop in 20 – 25 minutes. We are just 90 seconds around the corner from this bus stop.

Interlaken West is a little closer, and it only takes 10 minutes on foot from the station to reach the property. Alternatively, you can also take the 104 bus from West station to the Unterseen Stadthausplatz stop which will take approx 5 minutes.

    • Do you have any recommendations for activities for guests?
      • Having worked in the tourism industry in Interlaken, our managers and staff can give you first-hand suggestions and recommendations for getting into some adventure whilst in Interlaken We can also hint at some more laid back sightseeing trips, some local secrets, and we can also help you avoid some tourist traps!

    • What is the weather like in Interlaken?
      • This is a tough question. From April through until October, Interlaken is at its warm mountainous best for those who are shy of snow! Temperatures can reach 35 degrees Celcius in the daytime for weeks at a time, but it can also drop into single figures at any time with a cold front. Bring something warm if you want to head up into the mountains and bring your swimsuit if you want to get wet.

Winter time is relatively mild compared to some other winter destinations as we are located at a low altitude and between two lakes. The peak of winter falls between the end of December and the end of February. Although temperatures hover around the freezing point for many of our winter days, nights are cold and even daytime temperatures could go as low as -10 or less! If you are going into the mountains, you will need some warmer clothing for sure!
